The Ladin culture in the Dolomites

The Ladin culture in the Dolomites

To seize the more authentic and sincere essence of Val di Fassa, a visit to the Ladin Museum in Vigo is worthwhile. Its aim is to preserve the ethnographic memory of the Fassa Ladins, a small people that, in spite of the passing of centuries, protects with pride its identity, culture and language. Room after room, you enter in the Ladin world, passing through the habits, the traditions, the religious rites and the ancient crafts. The Museum also offers its visitors many multimedia workstations in which short movies show some productive activities and slices of popular culture, such as the Carnival rites. Names linked with the Ladin Museum are those of Ettore Sottsass, a world-famous architect who took care of its design, and of the great illustrator Milo Manara who created a beautiful series of coloured tables with the characters of the Fassa legends such as the "Stria", the "Vivène", the "Salvan" and the "Bregostène".
Worth a visit also the ancient Venetian sawmill in Penia and the watermill in Pera di Fassa.

Pay reduced entry fees to the Ladin Museum with the Val di Fassa Card. Ask your accommodation owner for it at check in, it’s free!
